Tesla Autopilot 2.0 – New features! Hardware retrofit possible?

In September 2014, Tesla introduced its first autopilot hardware suite, equipped with a front-facing camera, radar, as well as a 360° ultrasonic sensors. More than a year later new features like “Autosteer” and “Autopark” have been introduced with the software update (version 7.0). Now as of last week, Tesla announced that all cars to be produced in the future (including the Model 3) will be equipped with the hardware needed for fully self-driving cars. As of now the new software is still to be validated and may be rolled out in December 2016. New features will incrementally be push through over-the-air software updates. The new hardware will to some degree be enable autonomous driving level 3 (driver still needs to be able to control the vehicle at any time), but is very likely to provide fully autonomous driving in the not too far future. For the first time ever the Formula Electric has been held in Hong Kong which was the first city in this upcoming season. Set against the iconic skyline electric cars have been racing along the 1.8 kilometer central harbourfront circuit at the two day event. For those who missed the event following a video with a quick recap: At the event some electric car manufacturer showed their current product line-up. Tesla displayed the Model X with its falcon wing doors which will hit the Hong Kong market very soon. We had a closer look at the Interior which is similar to the one of the Model S. Paris Motor Show – 3 electric cars you must see.

This years Paris Motor Show has proven that there will be a big change in the automotive industry in the near future. German car makers Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen AG were presenting its concept cars and ambitious plans for their future electric mobility solutions and battery powered electric vehicle technologies. VOLKSWAGEN Volkswagen has unveiled its I.D. concept vehicle. VW claims that this car will be able to almost drive twice as far on one charge as Tesla’s upcoming Model 3. It is planned to hit the market by 2020. The concept car shows what can be expected from VW in the upcoming years, where about 30 new models are planned to be built. Two years ago, Tesla began construction on the company’s biggest and most impressive project yet, set in the dessert of Nevada. The Gigafactory 1 is a stark contrast to its sandy surroundings. In future the factory is said to produce more battery cells in a year than all other battery manufacturers worldwide combined produced in 2014. Once finished the space of the factory will exceed more than 1.9 million square feet, which adds up to about 95 soccer fields. The Gigafactory has become the most important project for Tesla in order to be capable of delivering the ambitious goal of producing 500.000 electric cars by 2018.
